Podunk Amarillo...

You know you're in a podunk town when:
  • Within the first five minutes of stepping out of the car an old lady tells you "you need to start exercising" jokingly and then comes and grabs your belly and says to "make sure you protect your family jewels."
  • You're at Walmart pushing a shopping cart and you get approached by a lady saying "you're going to kill your baby!" Me, shocked and confused- "What?" Lady- "You're not supposed to do that or it will hurt the baby" and continues on and on about how I'm hurting my unborn baby.
  • You're in target and the lady behind you in line says, "Oh honey, not you too!" Me, again confused, "What?" Lady- "We have enough teen pregnancy's in this town- don't they teach you nothin in school these days?"
  • You go to enjoy a peaceful hour at the pool of reading and soaking in a few rays and a guy comes to sit next to you and begins hitting on you with a beer in one hand and cigarette in the other. In my head I'm thinking- "clearly you can tell I'm pregnant being 34 weeks along and don't appreciate the smoking as I cough making it obvious." He says, "Hey sugar, you want a beer?" Me- "Uh, I'm pregnant and I don't drink anyway" in an annoyed tone. Then as I'm getting up to leave, him- "Hey, you leaving so soon?" Me- "Yeah, it's hot out here." Him- "Well then let's get in the pool and cool off!" Me- "I'm actually going to meet my husband for lunch." Him- "Oh make him wait, he won't mind."
  • There are 5 registered sex offenders living in our same complex. (Don't worry mom- Courtland worries enough for the both of us and always makes sure I'm making safe and good decisions.)
Yes, it is true- I'm living in podunk central and am meeting some very interesting people. Good thing I only have to be here one more week and then will be back in good ol' Utah! But I feel bad Courtland has to stay until the end of August- I'm so lucky to have such a hard working husband!
